KP Assembly Standing Committee Highlights Gas Issues

Standing Committee meeting on Energy raises the issue of ban on gas meters, gas load-shedding, and low gas pressure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Standing Committee meeting on Energy was held under the chairmanship of Committee Chairman Dawood Afridi. Provincial Minister for Law, Advocate Aftab Alam and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Energy and Power, Engineer Tariq Khan Sadozai participated as special guests.

“316 mini and micro hydropower projects have been completed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa”, informed during briefing.

Kohat Division produces the most gas, but unfortunately, the federal government is discriminating against it. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, there is a ban on gas meters, along with low pressure and excessive gas load-shedding. The federal government is deliberately treating Khyber Pakhtunkhwa unfairly, Aftab Alam said during his speech at the meeting of the Standing Committee on Energy.

Aftab Alam, during the committee meeting raised the issue of ban on gas meters, gas load-shedding, and low gas pressure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upon which the committee chairman directed the concerned authorities to resolve the low gas pressure issue and write a letter to the relevant federal department to lift the ban on gas meters.

Special Assistant on Energy, Engineer Tariq Khan Sadozai, briefed the committee on the purchase of electricity, generated from hydropower projects under PEDO, old transmission lines, and other related issues.

Officials from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Oil and Gas Company and SNGPL also gave detailed briefings and answers regarding the issues and questions raised in the committee.
